movies and various things

Just saw National Treasure (number 2) which I probably would not have seen had it not been for the three kiddies but I enjoyed it anyway. In the mindless car-chases, predictable ending, ancient beam avalanches and flooding underground temples sort of way. At least the car-chases were in London. I didn’t even have the urge to yell “fruit-cart!”
(no, I do not yell things in theatres, for the record)
Really wanted to see Golden Compass, but will wait until I can leave the youngest with a friend. Fantasy violence a bit much for a five year old. My older girls can’t wait. I’m personally holding out for Prince Caspian but the preview for Compass looks better. I want to read the Pullman trilogy first, mostly to see if the books are even worth all the controversy.
Also reading Hawthorne’s The House of the Seven Gables and absolutely loving it. I read Scarlet Letter as a child but only just discovered this one. Some of his descriptions read like music. Stephen Crane is still number one in my opinion but Hawthorne may be a close second.

Am working long hours this week and then going to Rochester for a few days. Have not seen snow in two years
