Talked with the YA editor today. An hour and fifteen minutes, which is a lot of her time.
Bottom line is it needs some revising before it is a marketable YA novel. Quite a bit, in fact. She gave me lists of notes. Most of which I really liked. One which I didn’t. I do not want to take out Watson’s bit. But still- since several people have told me that they couldn’t tell the difference between the two voices, maybe that is the thing to do.
*sigh* Half the novel is written from his perspective.
What she said in the end was that I should re-work the beginning, maybe three or four chapter’s worth, email it to her and if it is more in the YA “voice” then we could discuss— er— acquisition? At least she doesn’t expect me to re-work the entire novel without some light at the end of the tunnel.  I don’t want to spend six months re-writing only to have them say- “Meh.”
  Now to work…
